Preparing for Enrollment

Open Enrollment Options

  • Enroll, change or cancel medical, dental and/or vision coverage
  • Add, change or cancel dependent coverage

Adding Coverage

To enroll dependents, you must also be enrolled in the plan(s) and provide proof of eligibility for each dependent, if not previously submitted. You may enroll in different levels of coverage for medical, dental and vision plans.

(Retirees) If you are not already enrolled in medical, dental and/or vision coverage, you cannot enroll in these plans during Open Enrollment. New dependents may only be added due to a life event. View Enrollment for more information.

Transferring Coverage

If you are a retiree and your spouse is either an active state employee or retiree, you may transfer to your spouse’s coverage or from your spouse’s coverage to your own as long as you are both eligible for coverage through MCHCP. You may transfer to either plan at any time it is advantageous to you, as long as coverage is continuous.

Canceling Coverage

(Retirees) If you cancel coverage on yourself and/or your dependents, you and/or your dependents cannot enroll at a later date.

If you do not enroll during Open Enrollment and you are currently enrolled:

  • (Active and Non-Medicare retirees) In the PPO 300 or PPO 600 Plan, you will automatically be enrolled in the PPO 600 Plan with your current carrier (UMR or Aetna)
  • (Medicare retirees) In the PPO 300, PPO 600 Plan and the Prescription Drug Only Plan, you will automatically be enrolled in the same plan with your current carrier (UMR, Aetna, Express Scripts)
  • In the Health Savings Account Plan (HSA Plan) or TRICARE Supplement Plan, you will automatically be enrolled in the same plan (HSA retirees turning 65 in 2018 will be automatically enrolled in the PPO 600 Plan)
  • In dental or vision, your coverage will continue at the same level

If you do not want coverage in any or all of the plans, you must cancel your coverage during Open Enrollment.

Married Employees

If you are an active state employee married to another active state employee, you each must enroll separately. If you wish to share a family deductible and out-of-pocket maximum for your medical plan, you must each enroll in the same medical plan with the same carrier and provide your spouse’s name and Social Security number at enrollment.

Proof of Eligibility

MCHCP requires proof of eligibility for covered dependents; for example, a birth certificate for your child or marriage license for your spouse. If you add dependents to your coverage during Open Enrollment, MCHCP must receive proof of eligibility by Nov. 20, 2017, or your dependents will not be added for coverage Jan. 1, 2018.

Strive for Wellness® Incentives

Active Employees and Non-Medicare Retirees

Eligible members can complete the requirements to earn the Incentives at any time throughout the year.

Partnership Incentive
Active employee subscribers and non-Medicare retirees, not in the TRICARE Supplement Plan, are eligible to earn the Partnership Incentive, a $25 monthly premium reduction. To receive the Incentive, subscribers must complete the Partnership Promise, online Health Assessment and Health Education Quiz through their myMCHCP accounts.

The Incentive begins the first day of the second month after the required steps are completed. Participants who complete the required steps before Nov. 30, 2017, will begin receiving the Incentive on Jan. 1, 2018.

Preventive care is covered at 100% by MCHCP, when using a network provider. View this page or see the 2018 Benefit Guide for more information.

The premium amount a retiree pays depends on their years of state service. To learn what you will pay each month, log into your myMCHCP account, select the Open Enrollment link or use the premium calculator. You may also call Member Services at 573‑751‑0771.

Tobacco‑Free Incentive
Active employee subscribers and non-Medicare retirees, not in the TRICARE Supplement Plan, and their covered non-Medicare spouses are eligible to earn the Tobacco‑Free Incentive, a $40 per person monthly premium reduction.

Members who are tobacco-free, meaning they have not used tobacco in the past three months and will not use tobacco, can complete the Tobacco‑Free Promise form.

Members who are NOT tobacco-free can complete the Quit Tobacco Promise form. MCHCP will mail these members a Quit Tobacco Road Map, a self-help guide with resources and tips to improve chances of quitting. Members can also download the Quit Tobacco Road Map through their myMCHCP account.

The Incentive begins the first day of the second month after the required steps are completed. Members who complete the required steps before Nov. 30, 2017, will begin receiving the Incentive on Jan. 1, 2018.
